Catholic Dissidents Oppose the Bishops

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops filed an amicus brief Tuesday in support of a lawsuit brought by a privately owned business, Hobby Lobby, that challenges the constitutionality of the Health and Human Services mandate that is forcing its pro-abortion, pro-contraception, and pro-sterilization agenda on those who reject these services as immoral.
Also on Tuesday, seven "Catholic" organizations joined with others to oppose Hobby Lobby. Catholics for Choice is a pro-abortion, anti-Catholic entity; CORPUS, Women's Ordination Conference, and Women's Alliance for Theology, Ethics and Ritual reject the Church's teachings on ordination; DignityUSA and New Ways Ministry reject the Church's teachings on homosexuality; and the National Coalition of American Nuns is pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage. more

Pelosi brushed off the organizations and church dioceses that filed suing the Obama administration over the contraception mandate. "I don't think that's the entire Catholic Church," she said. We all know that our Catholic Senator, Nancy Pelosi does not know when life begins and that likeable Catholic Vice President, Joe Biden is pro abortion.
We assume that these and other Catholics in high positions are intelligent. Is it politically and financially expedient for them to compromise their faith?


Joe Biden: In a weekend interview, pro-abortion Vice-President Joe Biden claimed pro-life advocates who are opposed to the new Obama administration mandate forcing religious employers to pay for birth control and drugs that may cause abortions are “out of touch with reality.”
Biden appeared on the “Face the Nation” Sunday morning talk show on CBS and told host Bob Schieffer that he found the recent debate over the mandate “remarkable.” 4-2-2012

Catholics for Choice openly supports abortion. Its’ press releases are worded to imply that they speak for all Catholics.
Other Catholic organizations including The Leadership Conference of Women Religious, the Catholic Health Association claim to be against abortion. They supported the current health care bill and did nothing to assure that the bill would exclude taxpayer funded abortion.

LCWR Statement on Health Care Reform

For many years, LCWR has been an advocate for affordable health care for all in this country. Similar assembly resolutions were approved and acted upon in 1990, 1998, and 2002. In its educational and advocacy efforts, LCWR follows the lead of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and the Catholic Health Association (CHA). In August 2009, the presidents and board of LCWR developed a brief statement calling for health care reform that provides affordable, accessible health care for all, with special attention to those who are poor and vulnerable. The statement was shared with all LCWR members, the USCCB and CHA, President Obama, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sibelius, and key members of Congress.

On December 26, 2009, The New York Times published an article that led some readers to conclude that there is a division between a position taken by the US Catholic bishops and a position taken by both the Catholic Health Association (CHA) and the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) regarding the federal funding of abortion in the health care reform bill.

During the months of debate about health care reform legislation, LCWR supported the work of the Catholic Health Association.

In response to the efforts of Senator Robert Casey to propose an amendment to achieve this goal and assure that no federal funding be provided for abortions, on December 17, 2009 CHA issued the following statement: "While we have yet to see the manager's amendment of Senator Robert Casey's final abortion amendment language, we are encouraged by recent deliberations and the outline Senator Casey is developing. It is our understanding that the language now being written would prohibit federal funding of abortion, ensure provider conscience protection and fund programs to provide supportive care to some of the most vulnerable pregnant women in our society.” In effect, the CHA statement was not an endorsement of the amendment or the bill. LCWR and CHA supported the health care bill after all pro-life amendments were rejected.

The American Catholic Council (ACC)
A low key, schism that wrongfully considers Vatican II as an open invitation to laity to change the Catholic Church. Since they choose Detroit as the location of their grassroots organizing meeting in June of 2011 it fell on Archbishop Vigneron to defend our Church.
We thank the Archbishop for his defense and pray for his work.
